Wow--that's something I've been trying not to think about! Actually, I've been wondering whether I'll hit one year (on Nov. 30th) or 2000 first!
Just the other day--on Thanksgiving, here is the U.S.--I was thinking about how I received a "reminder" e-mail from an acquaintance of mine
last year on Thanksgiving, about lending to Kiva. Even though I had seen the first airing of the
Frontline documentary on Halloween (Oct. 31, 2006), like many, I couldn't access the Kiva site for a few days or so, and by then, I was preoccupied with something else. I never "forgot" about Kiva, though, and just "knew" I would be back--yet, that e-mail from a friend brought it to mind again. That day, Thanksgiving of last year, was very "quiet" on the Kiva site, so I could browse as I chose--and of course, I was fascinated by what I saw. I decided I wanted my first loans to be really "special," though, so I decided--once again--not to lend yet, but to return when I had more time. In the end, I signed up on Nov. 30th, and made 5 loans that day--and decided I would wait for those to be repaid before adding more!

Then, once I hit 50, I decided that would be "it" for a while!

Then, I decided once my new credit-card billing cycle began, that it wouldn't "hurt" to add a few more.

Anyway, here I am!
As for #2000, though, I have no idea--and because I sometimes make more than one loan at once, I sometimes only realize afterwards that I have passed some sort of "milestone!" That's the way it was when I hit 1900, for example--because one moment I had 18xx, and the next moment, I had 1903 or 1904, or something!
Also, keep in mind--as you know--that not all loans are "large;" indeed, I've had a couple of loans as small as $25. If you don't believe me, here they are:
http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=3983http://www.kiva.org/app.php?page=businesses&action=about&id=3984I don't believe there have been very many of these, however.
Finally, I think everyone should be "free" to lend or not lend, depending on his or her own preferences.
So, what I am trying to say is I'll let you know what my #2000 is--if I know myself (or if I've passed #2000)--and you can choose to join me (unless I've joined you)--or not!
Thanks, Claus-Peter!
