One really good feature would be to rank the various checkbox options so that it should match that criteria as a priority.  I'm really interested in loaning to health & education but as there are so few of those around, I'd like agriculture as a backup.  The problem is that there are so many more agriculture loans around it's unlikely that I will be able to make my preferred loan types.

It could be a little tricky with multiple priorities in different categories but it's something that would possibly allow me to hands-free re-loan.

I must agree about the infrequency of journal updates.  I've got quite a few loans and have received nothing outside of the automated 'money has been distributed to...' emails which is not what I was expecting at all.

It's like a simple themes system.  It modifies the background of the toolbars and status bar with custom images.  It's not as extensible as a full theme however it offers extremely quick changes and the live preview so you can see exactly how the browser will look in just a couple of seconds instead of download, restart etc.

By the way, the beta is extremely stable for me and I've got AB+, stylish, firebug and Personas (to create the personas) running fine and there is a notable increase in browser and JavaScript speed.

I don't know if any of you have downloaded Firefox 3.6b1 today but one decent feature is the to inclusion of personas into the system.  This allows you to quickly and easily skin your browser by just clicking a button on a site.  It allows live previews by hovering your cursor over the sample image and is available for older versions of Firefox using the add-on.

I created a skin for Kiva which may improve exposure for the cause and give some pleasure to the fans!

I guess my questions are is this good enough and would this be something that Kiva would approve?  I haven't put it on the site because all imagery has to be okay'd to use so I'll contact Kiva if you think it's okay.

My art skills are nearly zero (took me 10 minutes to figure out gradients in GIMP!) so this might be a good chance for other fine patrons of Kiva friends to make a better attempt!

Hi Paul,

I've been playing around with the tool and come across a few issues and thought of some changes that might make sense:

  • By clicking on a filter, then clicking another, the second becomes the active filter however the first graph does not reset (colour and clickable status).  This can be done any number of times until every segment is red.  By clicking a new segment, the original should change back unless...
  • it's possible to select multiple filters i.e. all agriculture loans from AMK.
  • By clicking 'Remove filter', the graph does not change back to the original colour and clickable status.
  • The colour pallet available is quite small so if you have more than approx 8 entries, the colours repeat.  Any way to extend?
  • Once you've selected a segment, it turns red which invalidates the legend.  Would it be better to make the segment move out of the pie instead so that it's easier to spot?
  • If there are many entries, it can be really tough to see what segment represents what.  Could the hover dialogue on each segment include the name?
  • Special character ó is not being interpreted properly on the tool (MFI Fundación Paraguaya).  Looking at commonly used HTML character codes, ó is more commonly used so it may be an issue with the data from Kiva - are you able to confirm?

No problem, Wolfgang.  I'm disheartened but not giving up in Kiva or this forum!

Unfortunately a full site redesign is probably beyond my capabilities and I don't think they're looking for people to just chip in.

Unfortunately I got a response quickly however it just said they have a "team of capable engineers" and "they're super busy and can't respond to individual enquiries".  I have no doubt that they are skilled but as the changes I am proposing take no time to implement, it would be an improvement over them investigating changes and then implementing them later on.  Because these changes are small and dispersed, it's actually the investigating that takes the time!

Never mind, it seems that the devs are hard at work on revenue creating features which will have a much greater impact on the operation.

Never mind, it seems they don't want any help even if they're valid and simple suggestions.  Undecided

Well here's to hoping that loan amount data is made available!

Unfortunately I don't have excel and the spreadsheet won't work on google docs so I can't use it.  I must admit I haven't tried open office yet though.  If the full loan information is made available to the API it should make it possible to have spreadsheet functionality + more available eventually!

Fantastic app!!!

I'm particularly impressed by the lender search because I was just about to post about a suggestion for a repayment calendar type addition to the Kiva site!  It mentions on the page that the estimated amount for repayment is based on $25 loans, does that count for all data on the page?  If so, do you know if there are plans for the loan amount to be made public or is that blocked for privacy reasons?
